If I haven’t received the vaccine yet, will I be expected to return to work?

Note: This help topic is out of date and currently archived.

Yes, HCPSS employees are expected to return to work with or without having been vaccinated.

All HCPSS staff will have an opportunity to receive the vaccine. The planning of the vaccine distribution to HCPSS staff is a coordinated effort between the school system and Howard County Health Department (HCHD) that will continue in the weeks ahead.

HCPSS School Nurses and Health Assistants have received training on how to administer the vaccine and will support the process to vaccinate our staff and community.

HCPSS has identified prioritized employee groups to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Each staff member will receive an email with a link to sign up for their vaccination, one tier at a time. The four tiers include:

  1. School Nurses & Health Assistants, who will receive their first dose as part of the training to become vaccine administrators.
  2. Staff who have been working in person, including but not limited to custodians, Food & Nutrition Service workers, school-based administrators, and members of the operations and technology departments
  3. All other school-based staff including but not limited to teachers, paraeducators, substitute teachers, and contracted bus drivers and bus assistants.
  4. All other non-school-based staff.

All distribution plans are solely dependent on the availability of the vaccine in Howard County. HCPSS is ready to distribute to staff but can only distribute the vaccine as quickly as the Health Department is receiving it.
