Why is HCPSS using a third-party organization to confirm the vaccination status and weekly test results of staff?

PinPoint was selected because its platform communicates directly with Immunet, Maryland’s statewide immunization registry, to validate vaccine information. The PinPoint system is already in use by local health departments and other organizations, including other school districts outside Maryland. PinPoint manages data and conducts verification using a HIPAA-compliant online platform to protect individuals’ medical records and other personal health information.

While the Workday application currently used by HCPSS has the capability for employees to upload proof of vaccination status, it does not have the ability to verify the information submitted with the state’s ImmuNet system. It is also not advisable for HCPSS to gather and maintain employee personal health information.

In addition, HCPSS does not have sufficient staff bandwidth to review all employee submissions, verify individual vaccine status, manage the weekly testing program, or provide technical support to employees. The PinPoint customer support team will work with staff to address any issues with verifying their vaccine status or using the system.
