Are masks required in central offices?

Update: May 27, 2021

Effective May 20, fully vaccinated HCPSS staff in non-school facilities were permitted to remove their masks in personal spaces, such as offices or cubicles. Masks are still to be worn in public spaces, including hallways, restrooms, conference spaces, and the Boardroom Cafe or when interacting with members of the public. All staff, students and visitors must continue to adhere to mask guidelines and social distancing requirements while in school buildings, except while eating or drinking.

Why are staff required to return in-person prior to the first group of students scheduled return on March 1?

There are several reasons for the decision to bring staff back a week prior to students. The week will provide the opportunity for staff to set up their classrooms, receive support for technology challenges upon returning to the building, and become accustomed with new signage around the building so they may be able to properly direct students upon their return.

Additionally, the time will allow staff to become familiar with the measures in place to adhere to the CDC's guidelines around health and safety and ask questions or raise concerns they have.

What measures are being taken to protect staff who often work in close proximity to one another?

Plexiglass dividers have been installed in areas of schools and offices where staff members work in close proximity to each other, and desks were rearranged as needed to ensure social distancing. Custodial staff will clean and disinfect high traffic areas and restrooms frequently used during the day.

If I select the retirement preference on the return to workplace commitment form, am I obligated to begin my paperwork immediately?

Staff who are planning to retire are encouraged to begin the appropriate paperwork as soon as possible. The Office of Human Resources will work to process paperwork as quickly and efficiently as possible. If paperwork is not received in a timely manner, HCPSS cannot guarantee your retirement will be processed in time to retire March 1.
