If you are age 55 or older or have twenty-five (25) years of teaching experience or more at the time your professional license expires, you are eligible to renew your license under the Senior Teacher Waiver and are exempt from submitting acceptable credits to renew your license.
General testing information is available on the Maryland State Department of Education’s (MSDE) website.
If you hold a Conditional educator license and have been notified that tests are needed, please refer to the licensure evaluation and/or conditional status letter that was provided to you by your assigned Licensure Specialist for the specific tests that you are required to take.
To be accepted for credit, a completed CPD form must include signatures from both the course instructor and the HCPSS CPD Liaison or Non-Public School Official. An example of a signed CPD form can be viewed here.
Documentation initially submitted during the employment process may not have included all the necessary coursework and/or degree conferral information required to process your application for licensure. In addition, you may have submitted an unofficial transcript instead of an official transcript. Your license cannot be processed until the official transcripts are received.
NOTE: Your Licensure Specialist will not request official transcripts unless they are not currently on file and they are needed to process your application for licensure.
Yes – a PEC is only issued by MSDE to an individual who is not employed by a local school system. Because you are now contractually employed by HCPSS, you are required to now hold a comparable license, if eligible. To transition to a license, you must submit an application to renew or advance your unexpired license in TEACH.
Due to the high volume of initial license and licensure renewal requests, the Employee Licensure Team will review applications throughout the duration of the school year. Yes – you are required to pay a ten-dollar ($10) licensure fee for the issuance of an initial, renewed, or reinstated license. There is no fee to add an endorsement to your existing license. This fee will be payable through your TEACH profile under payment Details on your Educator Dashboard.
To submit an application to add an additional endorsement area to your license, you should log into TEACH and select “Add Endorsement to an Active License” under Online Services on your Educator Dashboard.
